The Nike Team convention was first introduced in 1985 around the same time as the Nike Dunks, and Air Jordan 1. These sneakers were originally designed to be performance basketball shoes to compete against brands like converse. They were also a cheaper alternative to the Air Jordan 1 silhouette but the design is extremely similar of AJ1’s, the only visible difference was that there was no wings logo on it.
The shoes had a relatively smaller heel tab similar to the dunk highs, and featured three small holes just below the Nike swoosh for better ventilation. After the release and massive success more costlier silhoutte AJ1, the Nike team convention was slowly discontinued by the brand, without any clear answer to why?
For the vintage sneaker collectors Nike Team Convention is still a silhouette to must have in the collection, and for the OG skaters also the team conventions were more loved than the Dunks due to better ventilation on the shoes.
Let us know in the comments below what do you feel about these shoes and why do you think Nike decided to drop the silhouette.
